koules

Koules, is a Venetian dominant fortress that dominates the entrance of the Venetian harbour of Crete. During the Venetian times it was known as the “Sea Fortress” but today it is known but its Turkish name. It is one of the most important and most visited symbols of Crete. The massive fortress consists of two storeys that used to guard the entry of the port.

Nowadays, visitors can not only insert the fortress that is a museum and get a glimpse of the Venetian times but also walk around Koules for a romantic evening walk just like the locals do. The view of the sea is breathtaking so is the sunset.
